How it Ships

While we pride ourselves on low free shipping thresholds to most of the planet, what we really stand for is minimal packaging.

Every product that ships out goes out in the minimum amount of packaging required to get the items to their destination safely and securely. No more, no less.

Materials

The Pela Case is made of Flaxstic®, which is comprised of compostable bioplastic elastomer and flax straw materials. Our material has been tested to be safe and free of phthalates, BPA, cadmium and lead and is verified to meet child safety standards in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Our base material meets U.S. (ASTM D6400-04) and E.U. (EN 13432) standards for composting in an industrial composting facility and has a lower carbon footprint and lower greenhouse gas emissions than traditional plastic. It can also be left to compost in a home composting environment.

Survived about 45 seconds in a 400-degree oven
I wanted a sustainable phone case, and between friends' recommendations and the videos on the Pela website of people dropping phones from great heights, I was sold. I love that it's compostable as well as the conservation aspect for the turtles.
I've had this case for around 2 years now, and it's held up well. In fact, yesterday it took a trip into the back of my oven at 400 degrees (just use headphones, people, don't prop the phone on your shoulder like me). After a harrowing near-minute in the oven, the phone came out no worse for wear — the podcast I was listening to played the whole time! The inside of the case looks exactly the same. You can see the outer part took a bit of a beating, but it's still completely functional. Thank you, Pela!

The color is pretty and the turtle is a sweet addition to the phone case. The online photo and in person case are the same. Best thing, it’s biodegradable!
