Materials

The Pela Case is made of Flaxstic®, which is comprised of compostable bioplastic elastomer and flax straw materials. Our material has been tested to be safe and free of phthalates, BPA, cadmium and lead and is verified to meet child safety standards in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Our base material meets U.S. (ASTM D6400-04) and E.U. (EN 13432) standards for composting in an industrial composting facility and has a lower carbon footprint and lower greenhouse gas emissions than traditional plastic. It can also be left to compost in a home composting environment.

I love it!
I purchased one Pela case and liked it so much I went right back and got two more in other designs so I could have some variety (I like to change up my cases fairly often). The case with the plants is unique and super fun in terms of the design. I think the “hand feel” of these cases is perfect - grippy without being that weird silicone finish that gets hung up on everything. These cases grip without attracting every piece of lint in your house. They slide easily in and out of pockets, but won’t slide if you set your phone on a table. What is this sorcery?!?! I don’t know, but it’s the ideal combo of features in my mind. I’ve seen some reviews complaining that the cases don’t fit the phones snugly, and I have not found that to be the case (pun intended) with the three I now own. All fit perfectly and aren’t loose anywhere. The case stays on regardless of what I’m doing with my phone. I also went to an outdoor concert last week where it poured rain…I had my phone out the whole time taking pictures, and even when wet the case did not become slippery, stretch out, or fall apart. Just dried right off afterward and looked good as new! That was after 2 hours of pouring rain exposure…so if it can pass that test and protect my phone through all of that, I feel confident it will protect my phone in my general day-to-day use as well. I love that these are environmentally friendly too - now I don’t have to feel bad about wanting multiple cases!
