Over consumption is a huge problem. Our Earth is strapped. We're using 1.5 Earths worth of resources every year - this is completely unsustainable.
We even have a day to mark when we've consumed all of the resources the Earth can sustainably produce for the coming year.
It's called Earth Overshoot day, and we hit it on August 2, of 2017.
We're borrowing resources from the future, and we've been borrowing resources from the future since the early 70s. What happens when we run out?
The average American produces 4.4lbs of trash a day. That is a lot of trash and most of it is unnecessary.
We also have to start viewing trash differently. Trash is resources.
We are throwing away resources.
I hope you've found the first four days of our Earth Day challenge inspiring to help you reduce the amount of trash you produce, and reduce the resources you consume.
To save resources, and keep them out of the landfill... one of the best things you can do is buy less.
Everything you buy will eventually wind up in a landfill, as compost, or continually recycled. It's important that you ask yourself what will happen to the things you're buying once you're through with them.
Focus on only buying what you need. Take some time to think about it so you have time to focus on your actual wants. You can spend time thinking about how it will fit into your life, and how it will add value.
When you do decide to make purchases try to support companies that share similar values.
I love working for Pela because of the environmental care and thought put into our products. Not only are they compostable, there's no plastic or excess packaging for shipping. And, they donate a lot of money to Save the Waves and 1% for the Planet.
Our company actually supports the idea that the most eco-friendly phone case - is the phone case you already have. However, we are second! ;)
We're driven by our values. We want to clean up the ocean. We want to help build a sustainable future.
So, if you're in the market for a new phone case, we have a deal for you this weekend. To celebrate you participating in our Earth Day Challenge, we're offering 25% off all of our products, and donating 5% of all of our sales to Save the Waves.
Happy Earth Day everyone!
